Guidelines

Sweetgum has three new titles forthcoming and will not be accepting new submissions for a few months. Please check our web site from time to time for updates. Following are the general guidelines when we are open to submissions. Send your best work. For submission of novels or collections: In a cover letter, provide brief biographical information and describe the manuscript you wish to submit, including word count or page count (in a standard font). Previous publications are not required, but feel free to mention them or any relevant expertise. Send a short synopsis, no longer than two pages, and the first 30 pages of the work. For submission of short pieces for a specific project: Include a short cover letter with relevant information, identify the call-for-manuscripts to which you are responding, and send along the entire work. In all cases: If you wish your manuscript(s) returned, include an envelope and postage adequate for the return. If you wish only notification, include a stamped, self-addressed standard envelope. Response time is usually one month but may take up to three months. (Sweetgum Notes, our online magazine, is on hiatus.)
