Sweetgum Press is temporarily on hiatus. We have already committed to two projects and have a backlog of submissions. We apologize to those authors who submitted work to the site’s editor address and didn’t receive a response. We mistakenly thought forwarding had been enabled. We believe we’re caught up. If you didn’t hear from us, feel free to follow up. Our standard guidelines are below–for when we’re again open for submissions.
Sweetgum Press publishes book-length works (70-250 pages) by writers from the Midwest, particularly Missouri. The editors look for manuscripts that are unlikely to attract mainstream publishers but are worthy of publication because of one or more qualities, among them originality, authenticity, beauty, regional or historical appeal. While Sweetgum takes great care to produce quality books in which both author and press can take pride, the press cannot promote or distribute widely. Writers who feel Sweetgum might be an appropriate match for their goals and for their manuscript should follow the guidelines for submission.
